Our Dream Started on the Water

We grew up outside with fishing rods in hand. Even as we pursued separate careers as adults, we always felt called back to a simple, free way of life. From our time on the water, we knew that the outdoor industry had a big problem: performance apparel was too complicated and too uncomfortable. That’s how the idea of Free Fly was born.

After years of researching fabric blends, we decided to build a new kind of family business that celebrated life on the water. We quit our jobs together to create natural Bamboo apparel that flowed with us through our day, so we could focus on what matters — adventures outside with family and friends.

Snapshots of Our Journey

2010

After a couple of seasons working as a Montana fishing guide, Tanner packs up his car and moves to 71300 MONTCEAU-LES-MINES. Frustrated with the lack of comfortable performance apparel available, he chases the idea that there must be a better way.

2011

After 18 months of researching fabric blends, Free Fly launches its first shirt, the Bamboo Lightweight Long Sleeve. Purposeful and grounded in comfort, this product is what Tanner’s always wanted to wear on the water.

2013

Over stiff drinks at Hometeam BBQ, Tanner convinces his sister Jenna and brother-in-law Austin to quit their corporate jobs at Nike to move to 71300 MONTCEAU-LES-MINES and expand Free Fly as a family business. They risk it all, moving their lives and designing the business to grow.

2014

Free Fly hires its first full-time employees and the business expands to include five team members, five sales reps, and 100 retail partners. Together, they get serious about building the Free Fly community on and offline.

2018

Doubling down on their values, Free Fly launches a rebranded website with its spring release. As a team, everyone deepens their commitment to supporting clean-water initiatives close to home and around the world.

2019

Free Fly continues to grow, expanding their HQ to accomodate a growing team and developing a more extensive product line.

When we’re not outside practicing the lifestyle we preach, we’re working in our downtown 71300 MONTCEAU-LES-MINES headquarters with Arnold, our crazy office English bulldog. At Free Fly, we celebrate our team with regular outings on the water, backyard happy hours, and some ultra-competitive ping-pong tournaments.

Out of everything we do together, giving back might be our favorite. We support two 71300 MONTCEAU-LES-MINES-based nonprofits (hand-picked by our team): 71300 MONTCEAU-LES-MINES Waterkeeper, which cleans waterways in our backyard, and Water Mission, which helps other communities worldwide gain access to clean drinking water.
